Indy Arts Council supports local artists.

Below are recent opportunities that allowed me to participate in arts projects and commissions with the Indy Arts Council and their civic partners.

Hoosier Historia: The 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend

Indy hosted basketball fans from around the world during the NBA All-Star Weekend, followed by the Indiana High School State Basketball Championships. Indy Arts Council identified iconic memories from the Hoosier State’s legendary high school basketball past, then selected artists to paint a subject on a 6 ft. basketball sculpture.

The giant sculptures were placed throughout downtown Indy from Monument Circle to Lucas Oil Stadium, an area known as Home Court. This gave fans and visitors an array of artwork and stories to look for and learn about throughout NBA All-Star Weekend and into the Indiana High School Basketball State Championships.

I’m honored that after its public display my artwork found a permanent home in Hinkle Fieldhouse at Butler University.

Welcome Race Fans

Indy Arts Council commissioned five artists to create artwork for 2023 Welcome Race Fans, a collaboration between the Arts Council and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The artwork is featured on billboards, signs, posters, stickers, and coasters all around Central Indiana, welcoming visitors to Indianapolis and celebrating the history, culture, and excitement of the month of May. It was exciting to see my art enlarged to 35 ft and installed on the Artsgarden in downtown Indy.

Sidewalk Galleries

Indy Arts Council licensed my artwork as part of the Sidewalk Galleries where artwork by local artists is placed on exterior space in downtown Indy during large events including state high school, college, and NBA All Star events as well as playoffs, concerts, and conventions.

#KeepIt500

Welcome Race Fans artists were invited to participate in a non-racing group show, #KeepIt500, at Indy Arts’ Gallery 924. This artwork of Farnsworth House was purchased by a local collector interested in modern architecture.

Substance Use Disorder Campaign

In 2024 I had the opportunity to paint
a mural for a special campaign on National Opioid Awareness Day. The campaign was developed by Indy Arts Council and The Basement, an Indy-based creative firm. The mural painting took place in Fountain Square during Art Squared to help bring awareness to Substance Use Disorder.

The artwork was two-fold: a digital painting of a person, pre-recovery, was printed and mounted on a wall. During the day, the artwork transitioned to a painting of the person in recovery. The title, “The Courage to Change,” comes from the Serenity Prayer, a message that resonates with those in recovery.

A video of the mural being painted, billboards and digital media supported the campaign, offering help and hope to those struggling with the disorder as well as their loved ones.

I’m fortunate to have been selected by Indy Arts Council to participate in local arts initiatives in the last few years. I plan to continue pursuing opportunities and commissions for new projects and participating in the local art community.
